Our Story
Built From Inside
a Painting Business
PaintLogic wasn't designed in a Silicon Valley office. It was built between jobs, in the truck, by a painting contractor who got tired of running a business on spreadsheets and guesswork.
The Origin
How it started
I run a painting company in Chicago. Real jobs, real crews, real problems. For years I tried every piece of software on the market — general contractor tools, spreadsheets, you name it. None of them understood how painters actually work. They were designed for other trades and never adapted for the way painting businesses actually operate.
The frustration wasn't that the tools were bad. It was that nobody building them had ever stood at a Sherwin-Williams counter, scanned a receipt, and needed to know if that gallon of Duration went to the Elmhurst job or the Oak Park job. Nobody had tried to explain to a homeowner exactly what was going on in every room with a professional paint schedule. Nobody had tried to figure out their actual margin on a job while sitting in the truck between estimates.
So I built the tool that should have existed. PaintLogic knows the difference between Duration and SuperPaint, can parse a Sherwin-Williams receipt line by line, and builds a permanent property record with every job you complete. Every feature exists because I needed it on a real job.
Domain expertise — actually knowing the trade — is what makes PaintLogic different. It's not built by people who read about painting. It's built by someone who does it every day.
Real Usage
Every Feature Started as a Real Problem
The founder's painting company uses PaintLogic on every job. Here's what that looks like.
Receipt Parsing
"We scan every Sherwin-Williams receipt at the counter. By the time we're back at the truck, it's matched to the job — every line item, every product, every price. No more shoeboxes of receipts at tax time."
Property Records
"Our clients get a professional paint schedule — every room, every color, every product, every surface. When they need touch-ups in 3 years, they call us. Not the other guy."
Job Costing
"We know our actual margin on every job within 48 hours of completion. Materials, labor, subs — all tracked against the estimate. We used to guess. Now we know."
The Vision
Where we're going
Every home should have a permanent record of what was done to it, by whom, and with what materials. Not buried in a filing cabinet — accessible, searchable, useful. We call it the HomeRecord, and it's being built automatically every time a PaintLogic contractor completes a job.
We're building the intelligence layer for painting businesses. The more you use PaintLogic, the smarter it gets — better estimates, tighter margins, faster scheduling. Your data works for you instead of sitting in a spreadsheet nobody opens.
This isn't about replacing your judgment. It's about giving you the information to make better calls, faster. The contractor who knows their numbers wins the job and keeps the margin. That's what we're building toward.
